Holiday charging tips
On holiday you drive less each day but often in places with fewer chargers. Charging where you sleep is the key.
When you book, ask
- Is there a charger, and is it free or charged by use?
- If not, is there an outdoor socket I can use with my car's portable charger, and what will it cost?
- How far is the nearest public rapid charger?
Cottages and holiday lets
Many now have a home charger. If not, a 3-pin socket with the Mobile Connector adds 7 to 9 miles an hour, about 70 to 90 miles overnight, which covers most holiday days. Don't use an extension lead. See Mobile Connector.
Campsites
Some campsites let you charge from a hook-up with a Commando adapter, and some have dedicated chargers. Always ask first: hook-ups are sized for caravans, and some sites forbid car charging or charge extra. Our campsites page lists sites with chargers.
Hotels
See Hotel and destination charging and our hotels page.
Days out
Attractions, National Trust properties and pubs increasingly have chargers. See Places to charge and the holiday areas.
