Ferry crossings with a Tesla
Electric cars travel on UK ferries like any other car. A few tips make the trip easier.
Before you sail
- Check the operator's rules for electric vehicles when you book. Rules and charging facilities change.
- Arrive with enough charge for the drive from the port to your first charger on the other side, plus a margin.
- Look up chargers at both ends. See our pages for the Isle of Wight, Isle of Skye, Isle of Arran, the Isle of Man, and routes to Holyhead and Cairnryan.
On board
You normally cannot charge on the car deck. Turn off Sentry Mode while parked on the ferry: crew and other passengers walk past and it will keep triggering and using battery.
Islands
Many islands have only a few public chargers. Charging overnight where you stay is the easiest plan. Ask your accommodation before you book.
