Taking your Tesla to Europe
A Tesla is a great car for a European road trip. Superchargers are everywhere on main routes in France and beyond, and your Tesla account works across Europe.
Crossing the Channel
- Eurotunnel (LeShuttle), Folkestone: electric cars are carried as normal. Tesla lists a "France bound only" Supercharger at the Folkestone terminal. See our London to Folkestone route.
- Ferries from Dover and other ports: electric cars travel as normal. Arrive with enough charge to reach a charger on the other side.
Check your operator's latest rules for electric vehicles before you book.
Charging in Europe
- Superchargers start automatically, as at home, and bill your account in local currency.
- Other networks take contactless cards or apps. Many UK roaming apps work abroad.
- Motorway (autoroute) service areas in France have many chargers but can be busy in July and August.
Paperwork and rules (check before you go)
- Your driving licence, V5C logbook (or hire/lease letter allowing travel abroad) and insurance confirmation.
- A UK identifier on the number plate or a sticker.
- France: some cities have low emission zones that need a Crit'Air sticker. Electric cars get the green Crit'Air 0 sticker; order it only from the official French government website.
- Headlamp settings for driving on the right. Check your owner's manual for how your car handles this.
- Breakdown cover that includes Europe. Tesla Roadside Assistance can usually help across Europe; check your cover.
