Charging on a motorway
Most UK motorway services now have rapid chargers, and many have Tesla Superchargers too. With a little planning, motorway charging is quick and easy.
What you'll find
- Tesla Superchargers at many services and just off junctions. See all Superchargers.
- GRIDSERVE Electric Highway at most motorway services in Great Britain.
- Other networks such as InstaVolt, IONITY, Osprey and bp pulse at some services.
Look up any motorway on our road pages to see every rapid charger in junction order and the longest gaps, or browse motorway services.
Tips
- Let the car plan the stops. Navigation picks Superchargers, predicts battery on arrival and preconditions the battery.
- Arrive low, leave at what you need. Charging is fastest between about 10% and 50%.
- Avoid the busiest times on summer Saturdays and bank holidays, mid-morning to mid-afternoon. Check the live stall count in the car.
- Have a backup. Each services page on this site lists nearby chargers on other networks.
- Check which side. Services with separate northbound and southbound sites may not let you cross over.
Facilities
Services have toilets, food and Wi-Fi. A 20 to 30 minute charge fits a coffee and a comfort break.
