Boombox and custom sounds
Many Teslas have an external speaker for pedestrian warning sounds. Boombox lets you play sounds and music through it when parked.
Adding your own sounds
- Format a USB drive as the owner's manual describes.
- Create a folder called Boombox and copy in short sound files (MP3 or WAV).
- Plug the drive into the car's USB port in the glovebox or console.
- Choose your sound in Toybox > Boombox, or as the lock sound in the Locks settings.
When you can use it
What Boombox can do while moving has changed over time after regulators raised concerns about the pedestrian warning speaker. On current software, Boombox is mainly for when the car is parked. Check what your car allows.
Be a good neighbour
- Don't play loud sounds late at night in residential streets. The Highway Code tells drivers not to sound a horn in a built-up area between 11.30pm and 7am, and the same courtesy applies to novelty sounds.
- Keep custom lock sounds short. Hearing a long tune every time you lock up wears thin for everyone nearby.
