Autopilot and Full Self-Driving in the UK
Every new Tesla has Autopilot driver assistance. More advanced features depend on what you've bought and what UK rules allow.
Autopilot (standard)
- Traffic-Aware Cruise Control: keeps your speed and a set gap to the car in front.
- Autosteer: keeps the car in its lane on clearly marked roads.
You must keep your hands on the wheel and stay in control. Autopilot is a driver assistance system; you are responsible for the car at all times.
Enhanced Autopilot and FSD (Supervised)
Paid upgrades add features such as automatic lane changes and Navigate on Autopilot on motorways, plus parking features. Some features work differently in the UK because of UK and European (UNECE) rules.
Is FSD (Supervised) approved in the UK?
As of September 2026, FSD (Supervised), the version that steers on town roads, had not been approved for UK roads. The Dutch regulator, RDW, approved it for the Netherlands in April 2026, and UK approval was reported as likely to follow a review of that decision. Check the sources for the latest.
Safe use
- Keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
- Don't use Autosteer on roads it isn't designed for, such as narrow country lanes.
- The car watches your attention using the cabin camera and steering wheel input, and will disengage if you're not paying attention.
