Paint protection film, wraps and ceramic coating
Owners often say Tesla paint chips easily. Whatever the truth for your car, UK roads are hard on paint: gritted winter roads, motorway stone chips and tight car parks.
The options
| Option | What it does | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Paint protection film (PPF) | Clear, thick film that absorbs stone chips; many self-heal minor scratches with heat | Front bumper, bonnet, mirrors, sills, door edges |
| Vinyl wrap | Changes the colour and gives thin protection | A new look; less chip protection than PPF |
| Ceramic coating | Hard, glossy layer that makes washing easier | Gloss and easy cleaning; not chip protection |
Where to start
If budget is limited, a front-end PPF kit (bumper, part or all of the bonnet, mirrors) covers most stone chips. Add door edges and the rear bumper top where bags and boots scrape.
Worth it?
It depends how long you keep the car and how you drive. High motorway mileage and lease returns with damage charges make PPF easier to justify. Ask installers for samples, warranty terms and how the film is removed at the end.
Before you protect
Check the paint carefully at delivery and get any defects fixed first. See the delivery day checklist.
