Kerbed alloy wheels
Low-profile tyres leave the wheel rim exposed, and Teslas are wide cars. Kerbing an alloy is common.
Prevention
- Use the cameras. The side repeater and rear cameras show your distance from the kerb. Some cars show a visualisation with distance readings.
- Park slowly and leave a little more gap than feels necessary.
- Rim protectors: thin plastic or rubber strips that fit around the rim edge and take the scrape instead of the wheel.
- Aero covers on wheels that have them protect the outer face.
Repair
Alloy wheel specialists (some mobile) can sand, fill and refinish scuffs, often matching the original finish. Deep gouges or cracks need professional assessment: a cracked wheel isn't safe.
After a hard hit
Check the tyre sidewall for bulges and get the alignment checked. A knock that kerbs a wheel can also knock the tracking out, which wears tyres faster.
