Windows dropping or not sealing

Checked 2 October 2026.

Teslas have frameless windows. Each time you open a door, the window drops slightly, then rises to seal against the roof when you close it. If the car loses track of the window's position, it can stop short, drop by itself or leave a gap that lets in wind noise.

Recalibrate the window

  1. Close all doors.
  2. Lower the affected window fully, holding the switch down for a couple of seconds after it stops.
  3. Raise it fully, holding the switch up for a couple of seconds after it stops.

Some cars also have a window calibration option in the touchscreen's Service menu. Your owner's manual explains the version for your car.

In winter

Ice on the seals can stop a window closing properly. Defrost the car from the app before you open the doors.

Still not right?

If a window keeps misbehaving, or you hear a grinding noise, book a service appointment. The window regulator or seal may need adjusting.
