How to open Tesla doors
The first thing new passengers ask is how to get in. Here's a quick guide you can show them.
From outside
| Model | How |
|---|---|
| Model 3 and Model Y | Push the wider end of the flush handle with your thumb so the other end pivots out, then pull that end |
| Model S | The handles present themselves when the car senses the key nearby; pull the handle |
| Model X | Front doors open automatically or with a press on the handle; rear Falcon Wing doors open with a press on the handle or from the screen |
From inside
On Model 3 and Model Y, press the button at the top of the door's inner handle area, near the window switch. The window drops slightly and the door releases. Don't pull the mechanical lever in front of the window switches unless the car has no power; see Emergency door release.
Tips for passengers
- Wait a moment after pressing the button: the window lowers a little before the door opens, which protects the frameless glass.
- Watch out for kerbs and posts when opening; doors open wide.
- Child locks are set from the touchscreen for the rear doors.
