London congestion charge and ULEZ for Teslas
Electric cars lost their full exemption from the London Congestion Charge on 2 January 2026. They now get a discount instead.
What a Tesla pays
- The daily Congestion Charge rose from £15 to £18 on 2 January 2026.
- Electric cars registered for the Cleaner Vehicle Discount get 25% off until 3 March 2030.
- From 4 March 2030, the discount for electric cars drops to 12.5%.
Electric vans, HGVs and quadricycles get a bigger discount (50%, falling to 25% in 2030).
How to get the discount
Register your car with Transport for London for the Cleaner Vehicle Discount and set up Auto Pay. Check TfL's website for the current registration process and any fee.
ULEZ
The Ultra Low Emission Zone charges older petrol and diesel cars that don't meet emissions standards. Electric cars produce no exhaust emissions and are compliant, so a Tesla doesn't pay ULEZ.
Other UK clean air zones
Clean air zones in other cities, such as Birmingham and Bristol, charge older polluting vehicles. Electric cars are compliant and don't pay.
Parking and charging in London
London has more on-street chargers than anywhere in the UK. See London charger pages and Lamp-post charging.
