The frunk: front boot tips

Checked 2 October 2026.

The frunk is the storage space under the bonnet. It's handy for cables, shopping and takeaways.

Closing it without dents

The bonnet is thin and light. Pressing in the middle with one hand can leave a dent.

  1. Lower the bonnet gently until it rests on the latch.
  2. Place both hands flat on the front edge, either side of the badge, over the latch area.
  3. Press down firmly until it clicks.

Some newer cars have a powered frunk that closes from the touchscreen or a button.

Does it get warm?

The frunk sits near some of the car's cooling parts, and on a long drive or a hot day it can get warmer than the boot. Owners avoid storing chocolate or frozen food there on long trips. A cool bag helps.

What to keep there

  • Charging cables, so they don't slide around the boot.
  • A tyre inflator and first aid kit.
  • Takeaway food, away from the cabin smell.

Safety

The frunk has an interior release in case someone is trapped inside. Keep children away from it.
