Charging in multi-storey and underground car parks
Many town centre car parks now have chargers. They're useful while you shop or work, with a few quirks.
Before you go
- Check the charger type. Most car park chargers are 7 kW AC, which may need your own cable.
- Check parking charges. You usually pay for parking as well as charging.
- Check height limits if you have a roof box or bike rack.
Mobile signal
Underground and lower levels often have no signal. That affects:
- App payment: start the session before you lose signal, or use contactless or an RFID card.
- Phone key: it works by Bluetooth without signal, but carry your key card.
- The Tesla app won't update your charging progress until you're back in signal.
Etiquette
Charging bays in car parks are often in demand. Move when you've finished, and follow any time limits shown.
